Frequently Asked questions
What is an Osteopath?
Osteopaths are primary health care practitioners who recognise the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine which facilitates healing by focusing on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit. Osteopaths practice alongside other primary healthcare practitioners such as physiotherapists and GP's. Expect an osteopathic appointment to be structured similar to that of a physio.
What do Osteopaths treat?
Osteopaths don't only treat the back! Go to our treatments page to see what we can help you with, otherwise give us a call on 09 300 7335.
What should I expect during osteopathic treatment?
Osteopathic appointments are structured similar to that of a physio. Consultations with an osteopath involve a case history, examination, and then an osteopathic treatment. During the examination you may be asked to remove certain items of outer clothing to enable better access to certain areas of the body.
Osteopathic treatment includes a range of hands on techniques including soft-tissue massage, joint mobilisation and spinal manipulation. An appointment with an Osteopath will range from 30 to 60 minutes.
